Prospective Students
I am currently recruiting students to join our department's PhD program in Geography. In addition to having a proven record of academic accomplishments, prospective students should have two main qualities: First, a willingness and capacity to contribute to a new, NSF-funded project. And second, the motivation and capacity to develop their own research agendas. The interests of candidates should broadly reflect conservation or sustainability studies, agriculture or agronomy, and/or water resources management in mountain environments. While training and experience in specific technical areas or methods (e.g., programming, modeling and machine learning, remote sensing and GIS) are positive, applicants should have training in the geographical, environmental, ecological, or hydro-geological sciences. Successful applicants will appreciate the great outdoors and be willing to participate in field research in mountainous environments in Mexico. Spanish language skills are not required, but are beneficial. International experiences are also beneficial; strong English language skills are required.
Interested students should send me an email with the subject line: Prospective PhD Student. Please attach a CV, and briefly (no more than a few sentences for each point below) describe:
1). How your research interests broadly intersect with the above descriptions (my interests);
2). How your educational background and work experiences have led you to want to work toward the PhD in Geography; and
3). Any specific skills or talents you think would complement our work on water conservation and management in mountain environments.
